If you tell your doctor or school nurse about what is going on at home:

  • They should listen to you.
  • They may ask to speak to one of your parents or carers. You need to think which one of them would be best to talk to and tell the doctor or school nurse.
  • If you don’t want the doctor or school nurse to talk to your mum or dad, then think of another adult that you trust.
  • If they think that you are unsafe at home, they may have to tell Social Services, or the Police
  • They should always tell you what is happening and whom they are speaking to. If they don’t then just ask them.

Other people you might tell about what is happening at home are:
  • A friend, and ask them to tell their mum or dad.
  • A grandparent.
  • An aunt or uncle.
  • Any other relative.
  • Any grown-up friend.
  • Someone you know from your church or place of worship.
